Samuel "Sammy" Edwin Wood
Samuel "Sammy" Edwin Wood, 73, of Roanoke Rapids, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.
He was born in Halifax County to the late Wilbur Sam Powell Wood and Beulah Patrick Wood, and was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Norman Davis, Jr., his father-in-law, Norman Davis, Sr., and mother-in-law, Julia Davis.
Sammy is survived by his wife, Nancy Davis Wood; his daughter, Christy W. Loyd and her husband, Patrick, of Leland, NC; his granddaughters, Alexa McDonald and Lizzy Loyd; his sister, Judy Dickens and her husband, Henry, of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his sister-in-law, Janet Sykes and her husband, Robert, of Rocky Mount, NC; his sister-in-law, Dru Davis of Roanoke Rapids, NC; his niece, Sara Sykes of Richmond, VA; his nephew, Justin Davis Sykes and his wife, Bridget, of Washington, DC.
Memorial services will be held in the Chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Jeremy Kobernat officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Mid-Atlantic Affiliate, Memorial Tribute and Processing Center 4217 Park Place Court Glenn Allen, VA 23060 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
